About us

Welcome to La marmite éducative, the food education platform!

À propos - section 2

Why do we need La Marmite?

Though it’s widely recognized that developing knowledge and skills about food from an early age is beneficial, these vital skills are deteriorating in our society.

The decline in the transmission and use of culinary and food skills is driven by various factors, including changes in family structures and the evolution of the agri-food industry. Childhood is a critical period for culinary discovery and the establishment of lifelong eating habits. People who work with youth can therefore play an essential role in addressing this issue.

The mission of La marmite éducative is to make food education more accessible and to encourage childhood educators to get involved. We have curated a collection of over 500 educational resources focused on healthy, local, and sustainable food. These resources have been carefully selected by a validation committee based on origin, credibility, and relevance.

The little story behind our big Marmite

The creation of this unique platform spanned three years and involved collaboration with numerous partners from the fields of education, health, and environment.

After these three phases of work, we are proud to have launched La marmite éducative in October 2021. The platform offers a wide range of resources, with over 500 educational food literacy tools from across Quebec. These resources are designed for early childhood settings, schools (preschool, primary, and secondary), summer camps, and organisations that offer youth activities (community centres, group homes, municipalities, etc.).

Today, La marmite éducative is a structured project for the entire province, providing access to reliable and credible educational tools on healthy, local, and environmentally responsible food created by a variety of organisations. It encourages food education initiatives and supports practitioners to deploy them in their particular educational setting. Additionally, it serves as a collective showcase for the many organisations developing educational materials, services, or activities for youth.

In the long term, we hope that this project will enhance the food and culinary knowledge and skills of young people, regardless of their environment or their age!
